Eligibility Criteria
A college diploma or university degree preferably in the Arts, Humanities, or Education is required. Previous related work experience is strongly recommended. A resume and interview (by phone or on-site) will be used for final selection of candidates. Applicants with credentials from other non-English speaking countries may be required to complete an assessment in English proficiency.
Candidates should consider the following:
Because of the nature of the limitations of the client group, prospective students must demonstrate expressive communication skills which enable them to communicate clearly and concisely in English as necessary for teaching people with visual disabilities.
All prospective students either with or without disabilities must exhibit independent living and travel skills sufficient to meet the certification demands of the College in accordance with the standards established through the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) including fieldwork and clinical field placement requirements.
For the O&M programme, physical stamina is required as well as sufficient sensory ability to monitor clients in travel situations to ensure their safety.
If you are a prospective student with special needs (e.g., a visual disability) it is your responsibility to contact the Disability Services office. It is also imperative that you inform us as soon as possible so we can arrange for alternative accessibility (e.g.,. braille, large print, disk, etc.).
