Eligibility Criteria

A complete application includes the application form (must be signed), application fee (currently $65 Canadian), statement of areas of interest, official transcripts (and certified English translations if required), degree certificates and TOEFL score (if required), record of landing (if applicable) and completed reference forms (mailed by the referee).

Transcripts – Applicants (including current and former UBC students) must have two official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended mailed directly to the Department to which application is being made by the home university. Transcripts submitted with the application package will be accepted if they arrive in sealed envelopes endorsed by and bearing the seal of the issuing institution. Applicants who have graduated from non-English speaking countries must arrange to have all academic records issued in the original language and accompanied by certified English translations (English translations must be literal translations of the original documents). To be considered official, transcripts and degree certificates must be received by the Department in envelopes sealed and endorsed by the home University. These must all be received by the application deadline. The most common problem we have with transcripts is that the applicant sends us their own official transcripts which have already been opened. UBC does NOT accept non-official photocopies of transcripts, transcripts which have been opened or do not come in sealed envelopes endorsed by the issuing institution, or transcripts which arrive without the official seal of the university.
